South Portland- Frederick L. Shaw,80, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with his loving family at his side. He was the devoted husband of Judith A. (Mead) Shaw with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.

Fred was born May 2, 1945, in Portland, Maine. He is the son of the late Robert and Alice ( Wendell) Shaw. He grew up in South Portland and attended South Portland Schools, where he met his high school sweetheart Judy and married April 4, 1964.

Fred worked as a maintenance man at McDonald’s for many years until his retirement. He previously was a Machinist at Portland Clutch.

Fred treasured the time he spent playing with his adored grandchildren. He also enjoyed coaching girls’ softball, his sons little league team, bowling, horseshoes, riding his motorcycle, painting pictures and was a talented wood worker and made many pieces of furniture.

In addition to his loving wife Judith, Fred is survived by his children Frederick Shaw, Jr. and his wife Bonnie, Ed Shaw and his wife Louise and Vicki Shaw. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, his sister Sandy Taylor as well as many nieces and nephews

In addition to his mother and father, Fred is predeceased by his siblings Roberta Shaw Whitney, Robert Shaw, Catherine Shaw Benjamin, Joanne Shaw Whitney and Charles Shaw. Fred’s childhood friend Bobby Maclean

Fred’s visitation will be in the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of South Portland, 1024 Broadway, South Portland on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 12:00 PM-1:00 PM, immediately followed by a funeral service in the funeral home. Following services there will be a reception at the funeral home.

  4. Uncle Fred I could write a book with all the memories I have of you, from the days when you lived in the apartment on the next street to the house to the most recent apartment. I can still go to Longhorn and order exactly what you want (Aunt Judy too). In the last few weeks I told you several times that I had your back. I will ALWAYS have your back. Rest in peace my special uncle. I love you!

  5. Will miss seeing him around, it just dawned on me ,that I’ve known Fred for 24 years. My heart is saddened for the family. I pray that God heals our broken hearts, and help the family come together during this time. Fred you were a good friend but an even better family man, I know you will stay close to them, let them feel your embrace.we will miss you.

  7. Mr. Shaw was the dad of one of my best childhood friends, Vicki. He coached our softball team in senior league and brought us to the state tournament! My heart hurts for all of the family. I am thinking of you all and sending love and light for you all!
