Fred E. Fluckiger
Fred E. Fluckiger, 78, a resident of the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough, died November 27 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford surrounded by his loving daughter and granddaughters.He was born in Rockville, CT on January 9, 1928, a son of Albert and Anna (Diggleman) Fluckiger, and attended school in Ellington, CT.He joined the Merchant Marines and then the US Navy serving in the Seabees in the Pacific during World War II.His career was in the restaurant business. He owned and operated the Bar 83 drive in and car hop in Vernon, CT where he employed many of his nieces and nephews. He moved to California in the mid 1960's and managed several restaurants there until settling into the Spires Restaurant chain in southern California as a manager. Retiring from there, he moved back east in 1993, lived in Texas briefly and came to Maine in 2004. He lived in Biddeford briefly and then moved into the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough where he was extremely happy and made many friends.He was predeceased by a son, Michael Carr.Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Fluckiger and his son Christopher of Texas, 3 daughters, Randee Brodeur, her husband Larry and their daughter Megan of New Hampshire, Deborah Fluckiger, her husband Gregg and their daughters Amber and Brittany of Lyman, Kimberley Wilder of Old Orchard Beach, a sister, Barbara Hangartner and her husband David, brother John Fluckiger and his wife Betty, both of Vernon, CT, and many nieces and nephews.At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Maine Veterans Home, 290 US Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
