Frank P. Verock, Jr., 82, formerly of Acton, died on December 19, 2017, in Austin, Texas.Born in Athol, MA on November 23, 1935, he was oldest son of Frank and Lucille Verock. He grew up in Athol and attended Athol High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Hawaii in the Honor Guard.Upon returning from the military, He worked in Massachusetts and married his first wife, Jeanne Goodfield.Afterwards, he attended University of Massachusetts where he met and married his second wife, Gayle Jacobson. They moved to Acton in 1976, and he lived there until 2015. Frank was employed for close to three decades as a Geotechnical Engineer, first at Stone & Webster and then Kiewit in Boston. He worked on many large-scale engineering projects, including the Outfall Tunnel Project in Boston, where he worked the final 10 years of his career.Some of his hobbies included woodworking, restoring wooden boats, reading, and collecting antiques. He loved anything to do with the British Isles, especially Land Rovers and Celtic traditions, and aeronautical history. He was an avid music lover with a huge collection of folk music, including Folkways records, Celtic music, and coastal songs. He always enjoyed exploring the outdoors in a 4x4 vehicle or a canoe.Frank was known to have a dry sense of humor and a quick smile, and he will be dearly missed.He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Gayle Verock, and his sister, Dorothy Mahoney.Survivors include his brother, Michael Verock and his wife Mary, and his three sons, William Verock and his wife Inga living in Prague, Czech Republic, Frank Verock III and his wife Amy of Burke, VA, Joseph Verock and his wife Tawanna, of Austin, TX, and four granddaughters, Ivette, Ines, Olivia, and Caroline. Friends and relatives are invited to a time of visitation on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., and then a memorial service at 4:00 PM at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale.
