Frank Abbott, 86, of Wells, Maine, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, at a long-term care facility. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 22, 1938, Frank grew up with a natural curiosity and a love for adventure. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1962 to 1967 and spending much of his time stationed in Germany. It was during a leave that he met Donna Warren, a kind and spirited young woman from Iowa. Their connection was instant, and the two soon married, building a life together rooted in love, family, and faith. Frank and Donna first made their home in Chicago, where they helped run a restaurant and built a strong foundation as partners in both work and life. Donna later pursued her teaching career, which led them to Maine, where she took a position in Biddeford. They settled in Lyman and raised their family there, becoming dedicated members of the Goodwins Mills Methodist Church, where Donna played the organ for many years. Frank spent the majority of his career in sales, working for Sears and several other businesses before retiring from Loss Prevention at Kittery Trading Post in 2018 at the age of 80. His strong work ethic and commitment to doing the right thing were constants throughout his life. More than anything, Frank was known for his humor and warmth. He had an uncanny ability to make people laugh—often with a well-timed dad joke long before they were given that name. He believed that laughter could brighten even the darkest days, and his good-natured teasing and playful spirit left a lasting impact on those who knew him. Even as he faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s, his light never dimmed—he remained joyful, kind, and full of life. Frank was a man who embraced learning and loved to help others. He was adventurous, always eager to explore new places and experiences, which may have been what first drew him to the Army. He and Donna made it a priority to travel, taking two family vacations every year to spend time with loved ones outside of New England. These trips were more than just getaways—they were opportunities to strengthen bonds, share stories, and create lifelong memories. Above all else, Frank was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Donna. He is survived by his children, Derek Abbott and his wife Angie of Mechanic Falls, Todd Abbott and his wife Sarah of Wells, and Paula Abbott of Kennebunk; five cherished grandchildren; and his half-brother, Jeff Abbott of Indiana. A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate Frank’s remarkable life. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home in South Portland. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory, honoring the joy, laughter, and kindness he shared with so many.
In loving memory of Frank, who will be missed by so many. May this tree grow tall and strong as a living tribute to the beautiful soul that touched so many lives.
