Frances T. Goodwin, 93, of Sanford, ME died on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Watson Fields Assisted Living Center in Dover, NH.Frances was born in Berwick, ME on September 29, 1916, the daughter of Fay and Grace (White) Tibbetts. Growing up, she lived in Berwick and North Berwick. She was married in 1937 to Dorance Goodwin and they spent the next 48 years together until his death in 1985. They lived on Country Club Road in Sanford for most of their lives. They had no children but enjoyed being aunt and uncle to several of their relatives' children and had close relationships with friends and their families. They spent memorable times at their cabin in the White Mountains.Frances was a very adventurous person and loved the outdoors, along with activities such as hiking, boating, swimming, skiing, snowmobiling, gardening and berry picking. She dearly loved animals and volunteered at the Kennebunk Animal Shelter. She also volunteered at Goodall Hospital, Laudholm Farm in Wells and at an elementary school in Sanford. She enjoyed taking courses and in later years, traveled and participated in Elder Hostel.Mrs. Goodwin was a member of the North Parish Congregational Church in Sanford where she served as a deacon and was active in Women's Fellowship. She generously supported the church organ fund. She was a member of the Philomath Club of North Berwick, the North Berwick Historical Society and the College Club of Sanford. She supported the Nature Conservancy of Maine and Laudholm Farm.Frances was predeceased by three brothers, Everett Tibbetts, Richard Tibbetts and Newell Tibbetts.Surviving are two brothers, Herbert Tibbetts and his wife Anita of Amesbury, MA and Roger Tibbetts and his wife Glenda of Wells, ME and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.There will be no public services. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date.
