Frances T. Dooley
November 9, 1936 ~ February 23, 2015
Portland-Frances T. Dooley, 78, of Ludlow Street, died Monday, February 23, 2015, at Mercy Hospital, after a long illness. She was born in Portland on November 9, 1936, a daughter of Francis M. Dooley MD and Evelyn H. (Richard) Dooley. She attended Cathedral High School and graduated from Saint Josephs College with a degree in English. She worked for nearly her entire life for New England Telephone. She worked both the day and the night shift in the computer room and retired in 1989. Frances never married and devoted her life to caring for her mother and several elderly aunts. She was dedicated to, and made many happy trips with, her two nephews John and Richard Dooley. She took John to Mystic Seaport to indulge his interest in ships and the ocean and took Richard to the former Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester, Massachusetts to satisfy his interest in the Middle Ages. Her endless patience and generosity will be much missed. Frances is predeceased by her parents; a brother, John R. Dooley MD; a nephew, Richard Dooley, and many aunts and uncles. She is survived by a nephew, John Dooley of Portland, and her cousins. The family wishes to thank Mercy Hospital, especially the pastoral staff and nurses Casey, Shanna, Emily, and Shaunna, for the care and comfort provided to Frances and John. Their kindness will never be forgotten. Services are private. Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Fran was a classmate of mine at Cathedral H.S. and St Joseph’s College. She was a very bright woman with a serene and quiet personality. Such a beautiful woman! She will be remembered with fond memories. It was good to read of her relationship with her nephews. Please accept my condolences to the family.
