Frances Olive Dolan

CAPE ELIZABETH - Frances Olive Dolan, 90, beloved wife of Roger W. Dolan, passed from this life into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 27, 2014 at Birchwoods at Canco in Portland, Maine. Born June 14, 1923 in Biddeford, Maine, she was the daughter of Orein D. and Louise B. (Staples) Hooper. Frances grew up in the Willard Square area of South Portland, and spent many enjoyable summer days of her youth at Willard Beach. She graduated from South Portland High School in 1941. During the years of WWII she lived and worked in both Savannah, Georgia and Galveston, Texas, and later lived for a period in postwar Austria. She returned to Maine in late 1949. After raising her four children, she embarked on a long and successful career with The Travelers Insurance Company, rising to a management position before retiring in the late 1980's. After retirement, Frances and Roger (Mickey) enjoyed many recreational activities together, including attending sporting events, especially baseball, playing golf and bowling, fishing at Pierce Pond, and wagering at harness races and casinos. In their retirement years, she and Mickey spent their midwinter months in Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Frances was predeceased by her first husband William G. Bell; sister, Bettina M. Maller; daughter, Nancy Joy Fergusson, and nephew, William G. Conohan. She is survived by her husband Roger of 63 years; sons, Gordon W. Bell of Tenants Harbor, Daniel O. Bell of Cape Elizabeth, Stephen R. Dolan and his wife Mary of South Portland; grandson Colin S. Fergusson of North Whitefield; granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Fergusson of Alna and her son Robin S. Dmitrieff; nephew, Reginald O. Conohan and his wife Theresa of South Portland, their daughters Lauren and Bridget; and grandnephew Daniel M. Conohan in Massachusetts. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, Maine.
