South Portland - Frances E. Colello, 103, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2017, at the Cedars Nursing Facility surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 25, 1913, near Naples, Italy and came to the United States as an infant. Frances was the daughter of John and Theresa Atripaldi. She was married for 56 years to the late Anthony M. Colello with whom she owned and operated Commercial Fruit Store on India Street in Portland for many years. Upon retirement, she and her husband, Tony, enjoyed various hobbies including traveling, gardening, and spending time with their two grandchildren. Frances was also a life member of the Italian Heritage Center. Frances was also predeceased by her sisters, Theresa Ricci, Jenny Pellegrini, Eleanor Marshall; and infant brother, Andrew Atripaldi. She is survived by her daughter, Concetta Thuotte and her husband, Victor, of Westford, MA; grandchildren, Nicole McDonald and her husband Brian, Christopher Thuotte and his wife Renee; great grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew McDonald, Ty and Sydney Thuotte; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Cedars Nursing Facility for their kind, compassionate, and loving care of Frances over the past few years. Visiting hours will be held from 4:00PM - 8:00PM on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home at 9:15AM on Thursday, July 6, 2017, followed by a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 72 Federal Street, Portland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Memorial contributions may be made in Frances' memory to the Cedars Nursing Facility, 630 Ocean Avenue, Portland Maine 04103

    It is with sadness and sympathy that we send this message to you upon the passing of Mrs. Colello. She was a wonderful presence at our family gatherings. We always looked forward to having her share our celebrations. We shall miss her sweet ways and miss her familiar comment of “I am still here”. We are grateful to have known her and will always keep her in our memory.
