Frances L. Byam

Frances (Fran) Louise Byam, 88, of Sanford, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford. Frances was born in Edgartown, MA on November 26, 1926 to Capt. William H. and Adelaide Louise (Pike) Stanley. Her family moved to Camden, where Fran attended local schools, graduating from Camden High School in 1946. Fran married William Avery Smith and lived in Camden until his death on September 6, 1964. She later met and married Robert S. Byam, Sr. and they lived in Kingfield, ME before purchasing and restoring an old farm in Acton, on Hilton Ridge where they resided until his death in 1998. Mrs. Byam was a member of the Liberty Chapel Congregational Church, in Milton Mills NH. Figure skating was her life-long joy and she participated in the sport as long as she was able. Mrs. Byam was predeceased by her two husbands and a step-daughter, Melissa W. Byam.Surviving are her sister-in-law, Nancy B. Stanley and nephew, Allison D. Stanley, both of Barrington Passage, NS, Canada and four step-children, Hillary Lukow, Robert S. Byam Jr., Roger E. Byam, and Jessica A.
