Evelyn R. Nadeau, 89, of Sanford died on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the York Hospital in York with her children by her side.Evelyn was born on June 1, 1927 to George and Josephine (Demelle) Richard in Sanford where she grew up and attended local schools, graduating from St. Ignatius High School. During her working life she had been employed in doctor's offices, at Lovell's Pharmacy and as an in-home health aid for the elderly.Evelyn was an avid reader. She enjoyed making hooked rugs, doing crossword puzzles and listening to classical music but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a woman with a strong will to live and a fighting spirit. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.Evelyn was predeceased by a granddaughter, Trista Nichols; her former spouse, J. Raymond "Red" Nadeau and five siblings, Lucille Sevigny, Rolande Page, Lionel Richard, Daniel Richard and Connie Therrieault.Surviving are four children, Richard Nadeau and his wife, Diane Libby-Rose of Cumberland, John Nadeau and his wife Christine of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, Michelle Jean and her husband Michael of Sanford and Roslyn Emmons and her husband Wayne of Springvale; 10 grandchildren, Alexandra, Jamie, Brittney, Ashley, Samantha, Jennifer, Adam, Hilary, Heather and Haley; eight great-grandchildren and three siblings, Theodore Richard of Acton, Gerard Richard of South Berwick and Leonard Richard of Ohio.Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, September 12th at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 13th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the American Heart Association, 51 US Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, Maine 04074.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation service, Sanford-Springvale.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
