Evelyn E. Coy, 86, of Alfred, Maine, died Thursday, October 19, 2006 in Kennebunk. Evelyn was born on December 29, 1919 in Haverhill, MA to Frank and Elizabeth Jones Walker. She was a graduate of Pearly High School in Georgetown, MA. She worked for many years as an administrative assistant at Northeast Regional Technical Vocational School in Wakefield, MA until she and her husband retired to Alfred in 1985.Mrs. Coy lived a very active and full life, always keeping herself occupied with something. She was a former member and president of the Ladies Auxiliary at V.F.W. post #2346 in Saugus, MA and was a former member of Lynn, MA chapter of the Sweet Adelines barbershop chorus. Evelyn continued to stay active after moving to Maine. She was a very active member of the Alfred Parish Church. She had served as secretary of the church ladies group and was also very active in the church choir. She had also been a member of the New Horizons group, which would gather at the church and she spent a lot of time volunteering at the Alfred Public Library.When Evelyn was younger, she and her husband would take their family camping during the summer in Groton, VT, a tradition that they kept for many years. She enjoyed painting, gardening and making crafts. She had a passion for baseball and was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox. Evelyn was also a renowned cook. She took pride in serving wonderful Sunday dinners, which would often include a roast and one of her delicious pies.Evelyn was a very kind and loving person. She was very dependable and was always there to lend a hand to someone who needed it. She will be remembered as an extremely devoted wife, mother and friend and will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Evelyn was predeceased in 2005 by her beloved husband of 62 years, Burton G. Coy. Surviving are a daughter, Marilyn Carpenter and her husband Bernard of Fairfax, VA; 2 sons, Douglas Coy and his wife Joanne of Stoneham, MA and Bill Coy and his wife Gerri of Brookfield, NH; 2 sisters-in-law Dorothy Thompson of Groveland, MA and Theresa Coy of Tewksbury, MA; 7 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.A period of visitation will be held on Monday, October 23, 2006 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with a funeral service following at 11:00 AM at the Alfred Parish Church in Alfred, Maine. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred.Arrangements are through Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.
