Eva Mattie (Gleason) Hunter

Eva Mattie Hunter, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, at the age of 70.

Born April 8, 1955, in Rumford, Maine to Harry Bradford Gleason Jr. and Margaret Eva Bailey, Eva’s life was one of grace, strength and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Eva approached each day with kindness, humility, and an open heart, leaving a legacy of compassion and love to all who knew her.

Eva was the oldest of 4 children and spent most of her younger years with friends and family in Medway and Mattawankeag, Maine. Some of Eva’s favorite childhood memories included visiting their Uncle Bob’s farm and being able to milk a cow and ride her favorite horse, Sugar Foot.

Eva joined the Air Force in 1976, where she served for 4 years. During her tenure she completed basic military training, ground radio communication training, electrical repairman training, reliability soldering and electrical repair training, a noncommissioned officer course and a supervisor’s officer course. Eva also received an outstanding unit award, longevity service ribbon, and good conduct award from the United States Air Force. When Eva completed her service to the Air Force, she attended Spartanburg Technical College and received her Quality Control Associates Degree. Eva worked in Engineering in South Carolina until 1987, when she moved to Sanford, Maine with her children. After she was settled from her relocation, Eva quickly put her Quality Control Technician skills to work at Vishay Sprague where she continued until they closed in late 2001. Shortly after the closure, she obtained her CNA certificate and worked in this field for many years. Eva took great pride in this line of work and gained many lifetime friends.

Eva married the love of her life, Scott Daniel Hunter in May of 2008. Together they enjoyed walks on the beach, motorcycle rides, music and their animals.

After retiring, Eva enjoying traveling, and visited Ireland, England, and The Bahamas. Eva had a great love for board games, coloring, fairies, mushrooms, princess house crystals and other figurines.

Eva is predeceased by her husband Scott, who passed in 2014. She is also predeceased by her grandson, Devin John Folwer, who passed in 2002.

Eva is survived by her two daughters Holly Sue Steele, of Springvale and Jennifer Jean Roux, of Shapleigh, and their families. From Holly’s side, Eva is survived by her grandson Anthony Steele, granddaughter Alyssa Williams and husband Sam, along with 3 great-granddaughters, Brielle, Kennedy, and Elaysia.

Eva’s youngest daughter Jennifer’s family includes, husband Mike Roux Sr., Grandson Michael Roux Jr. and Finance Isabelle Eldridge.

Eva is also survived by her brother Robert Gleason and his wife Wanda, and sisters Lorrie Hall, and Donna White. Additional families include may loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting Hours to celebrate Eva’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 12th from 4pm to 6pm at Black-Heald Walker Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale, Maine.

A graveside memorial with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, November 13th, beginning at 12:00noon at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, located at 83 Stanley Road, Springvale, Maine followed by a Luncheon at the Shapleigh Community Center, 24 Back Road, Shapleigh Maine.
