Ernest Malcolm Johnson, also lovingly known in high school as Dingo, 82, of Shapleigh, Maine, died peacefully in his home Sunday, May 24, 2020, after a long illness. He was born April 30, 1938, in Sanford, Maine, to George (Bill) and Mary Tabor Johnson.Ernest graduated from Sanford High School in 1956 then entered the Air Force. After serving for four years, he earned his Bachelor of Science in engineering physics from the University of Maine. While working and raising a family with Joyce, he continued his education and earned his Master's Degree in mechanical engineering from Lowell Tech in Massachusetts. He retired as an electrical engineer from AT&T/Bell Labs in North Andover, Massachusetts, at the early age of 51. Ernest took pride in providing a vacation retreat at Square Pond for his children to grow up near their grandparents: swimming, fishing, water skiing, sledding, ice skating, snowmobiling and everything else he taught them over the years. He enjoyed fishing, nature walks, and anything grandchild related. He liked long phone conversations with friends and family and giving away Joyce's book, Poems of Faith and Inspiration. His most important goal in life was to help others understand that God is real and "is in it ALL."Ernest is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Joyce Elizabeth Folsom Johnson of Shapleigh, Maine; his daughter, Marcia Newell and her husband, Jeff of Litchfield, NH; his son Dean Johnson and his wife Stacey of Springvale, Maine; his daughter, Christine Morrison and her husband, Kevin of Sanford, Maine; his grandchildren, Bonnie Newell and her husband, Kris McConnell; Bethany Newell, Dean Johnson, Anna Johnson, Joshua Morrison, Daniel Morrison, Sarah Morrison, Joel Morrison, and Abigail Morrison; his brothers: Rodney Johnson and his wife Helen, Richard Johnson and his wife Doris, Douglas Johnson and his wife Mandy, and Stephen Johnson and his wife Roberta; and his sisters: Patricia Fiske, Sandra Navia and her husband Rod.
