Resided in: Sanford, ME

Eric Bruce McCann, of Sanford, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at his home in Sanford. He was born in Portland on February 11, 1947 a son of the late Sumner and Marie McCann. Raised and lived in Sanford he graduated from Sanford High School and then went on to attend the University of New Hampshire. He married his high-school sweetheart, Linda (Vallee) and last week on April 29th celebrated their 54 year anniversary. After graduating from High School he was employed by Sprague Electric for 11 years. In 1976 both he and Linda purchased Tony's Variety Store in Sanford and operated the family business until 1991. Eric also worked for Treiseman and Pine State Trading Company as a salesman from 1985 until his retirement in 2005. Eric was well-known in the Sanford Community from the family store and his time as a youth sports coach for his children; coaching them in basketball, football and Little League baseball. Eric took a lot of pride in his grandchildren, he loved watching them grow up and participate in sports, dance, gymnastics, school plays and concerts. He enjoyed having his family around and spending time with all of them around the house, at the beach and the pool in the summer time. He was very active and could fix/repair anything. He did not like sitting around and was able to tinker with any type of device or machine to repair and improve it. He was very handy and knowledgeable about everything around the house. Eric enjoyed his daily trips to the Trafton Center during his retirement to be with his friends and play their regular cribbage games. He was a life-long New England sports fan, watching the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins each and every night of their games. He is survived by his wife, Linda McCann of Sanford, children, Sean (Marcy) McCann, Lori (Garrett) Sawyer, Todd (Becky) McCann, seven grandchildren, Tyler, Andrew, Faith, Allyson, Rachel, Tanner and Zoey. He is also survived by his two brothers, Steve McCann and Reverend Gerald McCann. Visiting hours for family and friends will be from 9 to 10:45AM on Monday May 10th at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM, at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery in Springvale. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donations in his memory to St. Thomas School, 69 North Ave., Sanford, ME 04073.
