Emile G. Provencher, 84, of Berwick, formerly of Springvale, passed away on Monday May 28, 2007 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford. He was born in Sanford on June 4, 1922, a son of Henry and Annie (Cartier) Provencher.He served his country proudly in the US Army during WWII and during the Korean War. On July 28, 1944 he married the former Loreta Merrifield in Fayetteville, NC. On June 4, 1982 Emile retired from the Sanford Fire Department and the Springvale Station after 25 years of service. After retirement along with Loreta, they both enjoyed traveling especially wintering in Florida for 20 years.He is predeceased by his parents, one brother, Andre Provencher, two sisters, Irene Bergeron and Rita Roussin.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Loreta (Merrifield) Provencher, two sons, Michel E. Provencher and friend, Leona Fogg of Bangor, Raymond P. Provencher and his wife, Joyce of Berwick, brothers, Donat Provencher and Lionel Provencher of Sanford, Leon Provencher of Springvale, Lucien Provencher of Westbrook, Alphe Provencher of Washington, DC, George Provencher of Rockledge, FL, sisters, Laurette Boisvert, Alice Guay of Sanford, Denise Pelletier of Rockledge, FL, three grandchildren, Michel A. Provencher and wife, Lori of Nolensville, TN, Matthew R. Provencher and Jessica R. Provencher of Berwick, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.Visiting hours will be on Wednesday May 30th from 6-8pm at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11am at St. Therse of Lisieux---Notre Dame Catholic Church in Springvale.
