Elwyn B. Owen, 77, of North Berwick, died unexpectedly on October 9 while visiting in Columbus, Ohio.He was born in Westbrook on October 1, 1939, the son of Elwyn E. and Virginia (Bartlett) Owen. A 1959 graduate of Sanford High School, Elwyn was a US Army veteran serving overseas in Korea.An entrepreneur all his life, Elwyn owned and operated his own upholstery shop and Sudsland laundramat in Sanford. For many years he worked as a real estate broker. He owned and operated the former Drown Agency in Sanford and after selling that agency, owned and operated Owen Enterprises, a commercial real estate agency.In more recent years and right up until the time of his death he was very involved with Markerman Productions, a systems affiliate with Amway. Through his activities there, he influenced many people through motivational speeches and seminars. He achieved the Diamond Level in Amway in 1991.His family recalled that he was a kind and generous man who had time for anyone. A family man, he is remembered as an exceptional husband, father and grandfather.Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Dorothy "Dottie" (Young) Owen of No. Berwick, twin children, Kelli Genest and her husband Tom of Sanford, Kevin Owen and his wife Linda M. of No. Waterboro, grandsons Owen Genest of Acton, Colby Owen and his wife Cortney of Acton, Justin Owen of Sanford, step grandsons Eric Carlson and Justin Carlson both of No. Waterboro, a step great granddaughter, Isabelle Rose Carlson of No. Waterboro, brother Maxton Owen of No. Waterboro, sister Ralphene Hebert of Topsham, brother Forrest (Woody) Owen of No. Waterboro, brother Fred Owen of Waterboro and many nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 1:00 PM followed by burial with military honors at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Heart Association, 51 US Route 1 Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
