Resided in: Shapleigh, ME

Elsie F (McIntyre) Cebulla, a (RET)Navy wife with spontaneous spunk, entered eternal life on Tuesday March 2, 2021. Born July 2, 1942 at York Harbor Hospital in York, Maine. She is the daughter of Robert J and Helen B (Wallace) McIntyre (deceased) of Eliot, Maine. Elsie attended all her schooling through Eliot schools and graduated Eliot High School, class of 1960. She had attended Plymouth State and Husson College, then worked at C Richard William Ins Agency out of Portsmouth New Hampshire. She then, from a blind date, married the love of her life on September 16, 1967 to Harold P Cebulla of Young America, Minnesota and Machinist Mate in the US Navy. Through Harold's Navy career, Elsie was the rock and the glue that kept everything together at home. While raising 2 girls, she found time to be an avid Girl Scout Counselor in Connecticut and then in Maine. After moving back to Maine, she became interested in woodworking. She took classes in carpentry and helped build their home in Shapleigh. She also made some of the furniture, furnishings and finishings in their house, along with other woodworking items she made for gifts for family and friends. While the kids were young and living in Connecticut, she was able to keep the "home fire burning". Specifically during the 1978 blizzard in which the 3 endured no power over a week, over 2 feet of snow and then ice on top. Meanwhile, her loving husband was stationed in Puerto Rico and had quite the opposite problem. He had complained the AC was malfunctioning on the submarine. This opposition was a bit of contention until his sub came back to port, however by then everything was "back to normal". As mom would say, "You gotta be strong to be the wife of a Navy Submariner". When Harold retired, they moved to Maine and built their house. After, beside the woodworking she also became quite involved with camping and traveling with Harold in their RV throughout the US. They were part of the Chicadees and Good Sams Club to which she held Chapter/ Board seats, traveled to see extended family and just had fun. She also enjoyed competing in (Senior) Odyssey of the Mind competitions and volunteering with Special Olympics of Maine. Summer days at their camp on Loon Pond were best enjoyed with her 4 grandkids and annual McIntyre/Wallace family reunion, which the tradition had been continuous for over 60 years. Elsie F (McIntyre) Cebulla is survived by her husband Harold P Cebulla of Shapleigh, Me; her 2 daughters and their families, Sue-Ellen DeGroot & husband Jeffrey of Canton, Me, and Sarah A Wormwood & husband Ron of Dayton, Me; her 4 grandchildren, Madeline & Nolan of Canton, Me and Corey & Allison of Dayton, Me; her brother and his wife, Thomas J McIntyre & Janet of Bar Harbor, Me. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held on Sunday, March 7th from 2 to 6PM at the Carll-Heald Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A Prayer Service will be held at 5:45PM. She Was a Devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to Special Olympics Maine, 125 John Roberts Road, Suite 5, South Portland, ME 04106 or specialolympic.org/maine

  5. Harold, I just now (Monday 8th) learned that Elsie is no longer with you. It brought back so many wonderful memories of camping with you both with the Chickadees. I have been 2 years without George so understand how the adjustment will be for you without her. Thinking of you with love, Gladys Roberts
