Ellen B. Nelson, 88, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.Ellen was born to Alf and Ragnhild (Hagen) Mitsem on October 6, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York. She grew up on Long Island where she attended local schools. In 1954 she married Roy Garvin and together they raised three children. She later married Roland Nelson and they shared several years of marriage until his death.During her working life, Ellen was employed as a retail supervisor for several stores before taking a position as a road supervisor for Rich's Department Store where she stayed until her retirement. Ellen loved to go camping and would go nearly every weekend with her husband Roland. She also enjoyed snowmobiling and knitting. She dearly loved her many dogs and had been a member of the Alfred Parish Church for many years. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Ellen was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Roy Robert Garvin, her second husband, Roland Nelson, her daughter, Barbara Ann Worster and by her sister, Dorothy Joan Voigt.Surviving are her two sons, Michael Roy Garvin and his wife Leasa of Eastport and Ralf Robert Garvin and his wife Jane E. Ronayne of Limerick; her son-in-law, Thomas L. Worster and his wife Kathi of Shapleigh; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.Services for Ellen will be private. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the Alfred Parish Church, 8 Kennebunk Road, Alfred, Maine 04002.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.   1. I’m very sorry to learn of Ellen’s passing. She was a very kind and attentive mother to her kids. Our families were close when I was a child and we lived on the same street in Commack. My brothers were close friends of Ralf and I was a close friend of Barbara. We all looked up to big brother Michael. Ellen always had great snacks for her kids and their friends.
