Scarborough- Elizabeth A. Foley, 73, of First Street, died peacefully on May 22, 2017, following a long illness.
Betty was born in Portland, Maine, on January 9, 1944, the daughter of the late Herbert A. Jr. and Vera A. (Brownell) Howard. She graduated from Scarborough High School in the Class of 1962 and Northeastern Business School in the Class of 1964.
Betty married Richard P. Foley on September 21, 1964, in West Scarborough.
Having a long career as a legal secretary, Betty worked for Jacobsen & Jacobsen Law Firm in Portland for more than twenty years, along with several other firms before retiring in 1997.
As a child Betty loved dancing and had the honor of dancing at the Inauguration of Governor Edmund Muskie. Her love of dancing continued in to her adult years with she and Richard traveling all over the state with friends square dancing.
She loved knitting, yard sales and flea markets, needle point, always sharing her crafts and treasurers with family and friends. Betty and Richard loved to travel and were fortunate to be able to travel all over the world. Betty was a kind and happy person that, in her later years, got a great deal of joy visiting folks in the nursing homes who might otherwise not have any visitors. Her greatest joy was spent surrounded by family, friends and her dogs.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Richard P. Foley. She is survived by a brother, Herbert and his wife BettyJean Howard of Scarborough; several nieces, nephews and one grand nephew.
