Ms. Elizabeth Betty Christensen, of Buxton, died February 12, 2015 at Maine Medical Center. Born in Portland on January 14, 1950, Betty was the daughter of George Sr. and Theresa (Meehan) Christensen. She graduated from South Portland High School, Class of 1968. Following her high school graduation, Betty attended Mercy School of Nursing and Westbrook College, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She was employed with Southern Maine Medical Center for 23 years. Her generous and caregiving nature is what gave her the strength to become a kidney donor to her younger brother, George Jr. She is predeceased by her beloved mother, Theresa, and her boyfriend of 27 years, Stillman Bill Wilber. She is survived by her father, George Christensen Sr. of South Portland; sister, Linda Mayol and husband John of Westbrook; brothers, George Christensen Jr. and wife Linda of South Portland, David Christensen of South Portland and Robert Christensen of South Portland. Bettys Family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Gibson Pavilion (Maine Medical Center) and especially to Dr. Hedlund and Dr. Wrona for their remarkable care and compassion. It exceeded any expectations ever imagined. Family and Friends are invited to express their condolences to the family on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 from 2-5PM at the home of George Christensen, Sr., 732 Highland Ave., South Portland. A private burial will take place in the spring at Brooklawn Cemetery, Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland.
