PORTLAND - Elizabeth C. Brennan, 93, of Berry Avenue died peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Mercy Hospital. Elizabeth was born in North Kennebunkport, Maine the daughter of Robert L. and Nora Mulkern Brennan. She attended local schools and graduated from Cathedral High School in the class of 1939, Farmington State Teachers College in the class of 1942 and then earned her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Maine at Orono. Elizabeth dedicated her entire career to educating young people starting at the Lunt School in Falmouth, Perry School in Portland and then ended her career at the Reiche School in Portland. In 1968 she was named as the Maine State Teacher of the year. Elizabeth was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She taught CCD at St. Joseph's; a member of Diocesan School Board; member of the Maine State Teachers Association of Portland; National Teachers Education Association and the Farmington Alumni Association of South Western, Maine. In her spare time she enjoyed volunteer work at the Good Cause Thrift Shop and working on benefits for Catherine McAuley High School. Elizabeth was predeceased by her sister Rebecca Brennan Doyle; two brothers Robert T. Brennan Sr. and Michael F. Brennan Sr.; a niece Patricia Brennan Hubbell. She is survived by, and the beloved Aunt of twelve nieces and nephews Michael F. Brennan of Portland, Daniel P. Brennan of FL, Paula Brennan Goldberg of St. Louis, Elizabeth Brennan Sheets of FL, James R. Doyle of VA, Thomas P. Doyle of MA, Elizabeth Doyle Fitzgerald of MD, Robert T. Brennan of SC, Michael J. Brennan of NJ, John P. Brennan of Edgecomb, Peter G. Brennan of Old Orchard Beach, and Mary Brennan Callahan of CA; sister in law Anna Burke Brennan of Portland. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 for 3:00 to 6:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30pm on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street, Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland. Elizabeth was a truly great Christian lady. In my early years she was our neighbor on Munjoy Hill. May she rest in peace.

Miss Brennan was my much loved first grade teacher at Peary School back in the 40’s and I continued to see her at Shaw’s etc. She will be missed. My condolences to all her friends and relatives.

Miss Brennan was my first grade teacher at the Peary School. She taught all my 5 siblings too and we kept up sporadic connections over the missed. She is much loved! And will be much missed.
