SOUTH PORTLAND - Elena M. Charlton, 86 formerly of South Portland, died on February 8, 2014, at Fallbrook Woods in Portland with her son by her side. She was born in Portland, the daughter of Santo and Luisa Cereste Mancini. Elena attended local schools including Portland High School. She worked as a waitress at the Miss Portland Diner and at Boone's Restaurant in Portland. She also worked in the production line at Fairchild Semiconductor. She was an avid participant in area bowling leagues, was a Red Cross volunteer and was a member of the South Portland VFW. She was also a long time communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church. Elena is survived by her son, Stewart J. Charlton of South Portland; granddaughters, April Scruton of Lebanon, ME and Christina Baptiste of MA.; husband, Arnold Day, of Standish; brother, Leo Mancini of Portland, and a niece, Maria Donatelli, of Portland. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 5-8 pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited on Tuesday at 9:15 am at the chapel followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed below.
We knew Ellie briefly at Fallbrook Woods and always enjoyed our small conversations. We will miss her and offer you our sincere condolences.
