Eleanor Carrie Columbus

January 11, 1942 ~ August 29, 2023
Resided in:
Waterboro, Maine
Eleanor C. Columbus, 81, of Waterboro, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in the picturesque town of Birch Harbor, Maine, on January 11, 1942, Eleanor was the beloved daughter of Lewis and Alice (Getchell) Temple. She attended local schools and graduated from Sumner High School in 1960.
Eleanor wore many hats throughout her life, but her most cherished role was that of a caregiver. With compassion and an open heart, she devoted many years to providing home care for the elderly, ensuring they could enjoy the comfort of their homes. Her generosity and spirit resonated with all those she cared for.
Relocating to Massachusetts as a young woman led Eleanor to a new chapter in her life where she raised her two wonderful sons. Yet, Maine's charm was ever-present, and its call too strong to resist. Eleanor returned in 1990, settling back into the rhythms of the state she so loved, where she remained for the rest of her days.
Leisure hours found Eleanor engrossed in puzzles or indulging in spirited games of Yahtzee and cribbage. Bird-watching from her window brought her simple joys, as did watching golf tournaments on television. Yet, her most cherished moments were those spent with family, where her role as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother took center stage.
She found companionship and joy for many years with Glen Evans, who sadly predeceased her. Their shared moments brought warmth and happiness to Eleanor's life.
Eleanor's legacy will be lovingly remembered and upheld by her surviving family: sons James J. Columbus and his wife Carol of Waterboro, and Joseph M. Columbus and his wife Jackie from Lynn, Massachusetts; her grandchildren, Joseph A. Columbus of Lynn, Massachusetts, and Cynthia A. Columbus and her fiancé Shawn Anderson of Dedham, Massachusetts. Eleanor also leaves behind two sisters, Marilyn and Shirley, who will hold their memories of her close to their hearts.
Honoring Eleanor's wishes, the arrangements will be private. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life filled with love, caring, and unforgettable moments. Eleanor will be dearly missed, but her spirit will forever resonate with those she touched.
Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
Sending condolences to El’s family. My thoughts and prayers
My brother Eddie and his friends would go up to “the farm” all the time before moving there. Eddie invited me up for a weekend and El welcome me with open arms and a smile. The world is a darker place without her light.
Thoughts and prayers to the family. Eleanor was a very special person. I will forever remember the weekends with her and Glen and the whole gang, playing cards, horseshoes, blueberry picking, and bowling.
