Cumberland- Eileen S. Gagel, 86, of Pleasant Valley Road, died peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2015 in Falmouth, Maine. She was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts the daughter of the late John and Anna (Piontek) Shivick. Eileen graduated from St. Rose High School in Chelsea, MA and later went on to earn her BA in English from Bridgewater State College. Eileen married John J. Gagel on May 25, 1958. She taught for many years as a substitute teacher at Greely High School and later taught English full time at Cheverus High School from 1985 to the early nineties. Eileen loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens and cooking. She also enjoyed many fishing trips with her husband and two sons. Many happy hours were enjoyed listening to her grandson Steves trumpet, bass and guitar playing. Eileen was predeceased by her husband John J. Gagel on October 2, 2008. She is survived by two sons, John J. Gagel and his wife Ailsa of Sugar Hill, NH and Steven J. Gagel of Cumberland; one grandson Steven J. Gagel II of Cumberland; and a brother Captain John A Shivik, USN (Ret.) and his wife Roberta of Fairfax, VA. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 2:00 to 3:30pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, ME. A 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 10, 2015 at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, 266 Foreside Road, Falmouth.
