PORTLAND - Edwin P. Currier, 88, of Portland, died Thursday January 19, 2012 at Maine Medical Center. Edwin was born in Portland on March 29, 1923, the son of William A. and Clara M. Riggie Currier. As a child the family moved to New Hampshire, where he was educated and graduated from high school. For over 30 years he was employed with Thomas Laughlin Co. which later became the Crosby Group. He operated the Thomas Laughlin Credit Union for many years. He married the love of his life the former Theresa A. Stivaletti on July 12, 1954 at Sacred Heart Church. Edwin had a love of the ocean and all things of a nautical nature. He collected several model sail boats. In 1971 he and his beloved Theresa purchased a summer home on Peaks Island. They loved being a part of the Peaks Island community and advocated for year round water on their part of the Island. He was active supporter of the 5th Regiment Museum on Peaks Island and was a summer Communicant of St. Christopher's Church. He enjoyed gardening and loved to travel. Ed was a longtime supporter of community projects and civic organizations, including, Portland Landmarks, Peaks Island Land Preservation, the fifth regiment and St. Christopher's Church. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Theresa in 1997. He is survived by his brothers-in-law, Albert Stivaletti and his wife Anita of Cumberland Foreside, Jerry Stivaletti and his wife Alice of Portland; a god daughter, Ann Marie Stratton of Belchertown, Massachusetts; several nieces, nephew and cousins and a close friend and confidant Kenneth Acker of Scarborough. Edwin's final gift to mankind was as a tissue donor. Visiting hours will be held 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited 9:15 a.m. Monday at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street, Portland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
