Edward Harrison
Brother Edward Harrison died at the age of 91 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford, Maine, on August 6, 2009 after a relatively long illness. Brother Edward, son of Mr. Joseph Harrison and Albina Deschesnes was born in Sainte Felicite (Matane), Quebec, Canada on January 7, 1918.He entered the juniorate of the Brothers of Christian Instruction at LaPrairie, Quebec, Canada on January 2, 1931 and the novitiate of the Brothers at LaPrairie on September 8, 1933. He made his perpetual profession on September 14, 1939 and spent 76 years in religious life. Brother Edward had a long and varied career. He taught in schools in Haiti at Port-au-Prince and Petionville; in Canada at Grand Mere, Dalhousie, St. Leonard and St. Basile; in Spain at Colegio Menesiano and in the United States at Fall River, Plattsburgh and Canton.Teaching has always been his predilection after his dedication to the service of God. In his own words he states that teaching is very encouraging and rewarding regardless of some difficulties. It is a great pleasure to witness the progress of one's students and to realize that one has had a great influence on their minds and life.Brother Edward was truly a man of God, forgetful of himself, entirely devoted to God's people. He taught the young during his early years and cared for his brethren during his elderly years. No doubt Jesus' words apply to him. "Come to me, you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you an learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart ; and you will find rest for yourself. For my yoke is easy and my burden light. " (Mt 11 :28-30).Brother Edward is survived by a sister, and four brothers, Mrs. Jeanne Robert, Mr. Robert Harrison, Mr. Maurice Harrison, Mr. Alfred Harrison and Mr. Oscar Harrison.Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, August 18, from 9:00 to 10:30AM at the Brothers Chapel in Alfred.
