South Portland - Edward (Eddie) J Walsh, 75, passed away at his home on Nov. 15, 2017, with his loving wife by his side. Eddie was born in Portland on May 15th 1942, the son of the late Martin J. Walsh and Anne M (Train) DiPierro. After graduating from Portland High School, Eddie went to work for Harris Oil, which later became Irving Oil as a delivery driver for 55 years. One of Eddie's great passions was auto racing. He was a race car driver in the late sixties, becoming a race car judge and later becoming a flagman at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway where he flagged for 41 years. He received many awards, such as a Memorial Jacket, a lifetime achievement award and an induction into the Hall of Fame. He also received a special recognition for significant contributions from Maine Vintage Race Car Association. He loved collecting clocks for which he had many. He loved being around people as well as his dogs Shredder and Candy. He was a jokester with a quick wit. He was a very generous person who always put his heart into whatever he was involved in. He took great pride in his home, family, job and his vehicles. He is predeceased by one brother. He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Janice (Morin) Walsh, his children Jeffrey Walsh and his companion Tonya Gunn of South Portland, Vickie Gelinas, and her husband Bill of Scarborough, Marty Walsh and his companion Pauline Cilley of Standish, his stepson, Brent Arsenault and his wife Cindy of Poland, one sister and brother, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his dog Candy. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday Nov. 21, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at Conroy Tully Walker South Portland Chapel at 1024 Broadway South Portland. Private burial will be held at Highland Memorial Cemetery in South Portland. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US RT 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
