Edgar St. Pierre

Brother Edgar C. St. Pierre, FIC , age 81 died Monday Dec. 10, 2007 at St. Andre Health Care Facility in Biddeford following a long illness. He was born in Fall River, MA October 1, 1926 a son of Jean Baptiste & Eva (Dalton) St. Pierre. He entered the juniorate of the Brothers of Christian Instruction at Alfred, ME on October 21, 1939 and a noviatiate of the Brothers at LaPrairie, Quebec, Canada on August 15, 1942. He made his perpetual profession on July 2, 1948 and spent 65 years in religious life. He is survived his sister, Theresa McMahon of Westport, MA.Brother Edgar had a long and varied career as is evidenced by the long list of appointments. In addition to teaching in Montreal, Waterville, Sanford, Biddeford, ME, Plattsburgh, NY, Detroit, MI and Fall River, MA he taught in foreign lands such Japan and Haiti. Brother Edgar also heald a number of administrative posts in schools as diverse as St. Louis in Biddeford, St. Mary's International School in Tokyo and Notre Dame Spiritual Center in Alfred. He was as well a gifted artist who put his gift to good use in the schools in which he worked. After his formal retirement due to ill health in the early 90's he continued to serve the Alfred community in varied ways until the inroads of Alzheimer's disease forced him to cease all activities.Brother Edgar was truly a deciple of Jesus, forgetful of himself devoted to his students. He taught the young during many years and did much to establish and improve a number of the institutions in which he labored. No doubt Jesus' words apply to him. ' Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in Heaven '(Mt5 :12)Visiting hours will be Saturday Dec. 15, from 9 :00 to 10 :30 am at the Brothers Chapel in Alfred, Followed by a concelebrated Funeral Mass at 10 :30 AM.
