Douglas Howard Frantz
February 13, 1955 – September 17, 2025

Douglas Howard Frantz passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, in Springvale, Maine, with his loving family by his side. Born in New Jersey on February 13, 1955, Doug graduated from West Patterson High School before proudly serving in the United States Army from 1974 to 1977.

A hardworking and generous man, Doug spent his career as a diesel mechanic, bus driver, and tree farmer. Whether with a truck full of tools or simply a willing heart, he was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. He found joy in outdoor work—especially fixing cars and chopping wood—and took great pride in getting things done with his own two hands.

Doug was a longtime Massachusetts resident and a devoted Red Sox and Bruins fan. He loved dogs, history, country music, classic television shows, and never missed an opportunity to crack a good dad joke.

Above all, Doug was a dedicated family man— a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his children Aaron Frantz, Brandon Gagnon, and Kristin Szetela Esposito; son-in-law Damien Esposito; and cherished grandchildren Ariana and Robert Esposito. He is also survived by his sisters Carol Klisiewicz (and husband Ronald) and Christine Leccese; sister-in-law Roxanne Sachs; brother-in-law Scott Szetela; sister-in-law Francine Stavella, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Doug was predeceased by his beloved wife of 20 years, Gail Frantz (née Szetela); his brothers Bob Stavella and Jimmy McNelis; and his mother, Anna McNelis.

In accordance with Doug’s wishes, there will be no wake or formal funeral service. A private gathering to celebrate his life will be held with family and friends.

In honor of Doug’s life and legacy, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation (www.parkinson.org) or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (www.michaeljfox.org).

  1. I love you papi I’m more than heartbroken that you are gone and never got a chance to say goodbye, I will always remember being on your shoulders and going to work with you and especially those walks in the park with the dogs.

  2. Doug was a one of a kind! He brought so much laughter to our family. He was a great uncle who could brighten anyones day… He was an amazing papi as well to my niece Emma, setting such a good example for her of a good man. He is missed.

  3. Rest in peace, my dear funny friend. Thank you for your life, for your love, mentorship, and support as a second “Dad” to my son, Damien. You came into his life at a time when he so needed a father, having lost his own. You filled a great void in all of our lives. Well done, Doug, well done.
