South Portland- Douglas G. Holmes Jr., 69, formerly of South Portland, Maine passed on November 23, 2014 in Billings, Montana after struggling with complications from bypass surgery on June 13, 2014. Douglas was born in Portland, Maine on February 12, 1945 to the late Douglas G. Sr. and Marion Dyson Holmes. He attended South Portland Schools and was an Air Force Veteran. Douglas joined the Maine State Police in 1967, serving proudly in many capacities until his retirement in 1993. He then ran his own private investigation business. In later years he decided to travel and called an RV his home, traveling throughout the United States. Douglas is survived by his three children; Jeffrey and his wife Bethany Holmes of South Portland, Jennifer and her husband Stephen Masters of Scarborough, Timothy and his wife Amy Holmes of Massillon, OH; two sisters Barbara and her husband John Coffey of NH, Merrily Massillon of OH; one brother Allen and his wife Michelle Holmes of FL; four grandchildren Lydia, Max, Toni and Nathan gave him great joy and pleasure; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from 5:00 to 6:30 followed by a service at the funeral home at 6:30pm.   2. I remember our trip thru the State Police Academy as well as the fishing trips. A stop at Amatos for sandwiches and sodas and we were off. We got soaked once off OOB by a rogue wave and laughed our asses off. Flying down the Coast tracking drug boats and guarding Sen Muskie during the election. In the last few years Doug and I drifted apart but these memories will keep him with me forever
