Dorothy Annette Pennell, 90, of Sanford, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born at home on March 3, 1920 in Bridgton, the only daughter and middle child of the late LeForest and Marjorie (Dolloff) Woolley. Dorothy graduated from Bridgton High School in 1938. She married Clarence R. Pennell on August 2, 1939. The last 53 years of her life were spent in Sanford.. Dorothy and Clarence enjoyed life with their nine children. Dot's favorite things were playing cribbage and bingo at the VFW Hall in Rochester. She also enjoyed the fireworks at Number One Pond in Sanford every fourth of July and the Red Sox. The last 2 1/2 months of her life were spent at the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Many thanks to Dorothy's caregivers. She also volunteered delivering meals on Meals on Wheels.She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Clarence Pennell, three children: Kenneth, who made his mother a Gold Star Mother, Peter and Bonnie, who both died in infancy, and a brother, Fred Woolley.Dorothy is survived by her children, Richard Pennell and his wife, Connie of Dimondale, Michigan, William Pennell and his wife, Christina of Tacoma, Washington, Patricia McDaniel and her husband, Carlton of Sanford, Cynthia Babcock of Columbus, Ohio, Donna Ewing and her husband, David of Lansing, Michigan, Cheryl Waring and her husband, Dr. Richard of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, three step great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren, a brother, Edward "Mike" Woolley of Auburn, ME, four sisters in law, Alberta Webb, D. Mary Wallace, Charlotte Lamont, all of Brunswick and Geraldine Dile of NH.Family and friends are invited to gather for a celebration of her life on Sunday, March 14th from 2 to 4pm at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
