December 15, 2008

The heavens now ring with choruses of 'Side by Side', 'I Did it My Way' and 'La Vie En Rose' as Doris Zenaide Mathieu joins her father Arthur Berthiaume, mother Eva and siblings Yvette, Pauline and Bert in the embrace of our heavenly father. A lifelong resident of Sanford since her birth on February 25, 1924, Doris passed away on December 15 of causes incidental to a full and beautiful life. On Oct. 29, 1949, Doris married Roland "Skip" Mathieu and spent the next 59 years building a wonderful family life, an event for which daughters Nancy and Linda and son-in-law Dick will forever be grateful. It is difficult to capture in words the beautiful life that Doris and Skip enjoyed, but it lives in tribute in the hearts and smiles of their three grandchildren, Nathan, Collin and Lucia. She loved spending time with her family and her door was always open to everyone. Their home was the center of lively gatherings, birthday parties and summer barbeques after a day at the beach. Leaving behind in sadness but with the fondest of memories are sisters Lorraine and Annette and her husband Buddy Fuessel, sister-in-law Gert Berthiaume and an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and grand, and great grand nieces and nephews. In today's world when life seems so complex Doris's accomplishments are not measured in material success and grand titles but in cherished and wonderfully old fashioned memories of a devoted wife and incredible mother who always put her family before her own comfort. As a member of the Holy Family Parish and the Daughters of Isabella, Doris will be remembered fondly by so many.Doris's life was one that those of us that shared will always remember. So tip your hat and raise a glass on this day in remembrance and recall the best of times of a close knit, appreciative and loving family.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 11am at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Ave., Sanford, Maine.
