Donna M. O'Keefe, 60, of Lyman, ME, formerly of Charlestown, MA, died on Friday, August 28, 2009 at her home, after a short but intensive battle with cancer.Donna was born in Marblehead, MA on May 31, 1949 to Samuel and Jacqueline Popp LaCombe. She grew up in Charlestown, MA where she attended local schools, graduating from Charlestown High School. She attended Quincy Junior College where she graduated with a degree in nursing. She worked as a nurse for many years at the Normandy House Nursing Home in Melrose, MA.In 1970 Donna married John O'Keefe and together the couple raised three children. They lived for many years in Melrose, MA, spending weekends and vacations at their summer home in Lyman, ME. In 2003 they sold their home in Massachusetts and moved to Maine full time. Donna enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She especially liked bringing them to their youth hockey games. She was a proud "hockey mom" and could usually be found standing by the ice cheering for the kids. She loved animals and enjoyed raising livestock on the farm that she and her husband had recently purchased in Milo, ME. She liked traveling, sewing, canoeing and boating and spending time with her sister Betty and her best friends Cora (Lucy) Beals and Joanie Monet. Donna will be remembered as a devoted mother, wife and nana that loved life and had a heart of gold. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.Surviving are her husband, John M. O'Keefe, Sr. of Lyman; three children John M. O'Keefe, Jr. and his wife Louise of Randolph, MA; Jacqueline Bridges and her husband Keith of Milo, ME and Kevin M. O'Keefe and his wife Tammy L. of Melrose, MA; her mother, Jacqueline McCarthy of Charlestown, MA; seven grandchildren, John III, Paige, Alannah, Connor, Cassandra, Kevin and Joey; a brother, Walter LaCombe and his wife Charlene of Lyman, ME; a sister, Grace Elizabeth Campbell and her husband Joe of Lyman, ME and several nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 4th at St. Philip Parish, 404 Goodwins Mills Road, Lyman, ME.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Maine Medical Center, Development Office, 22 Bramhall Street, Portland, Me. 04102Arrangements are through Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale, ME.To leave a message of condolence for the family please click on the condolences tab to the left.
