Donna Fields
April 29, 1938 ~ March 24, 2025
Resided in: Sanford, Maine
Donna Fields, 86, passed peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2025, with a loved one by her side. Donna was an incredible woman. She impacted every life she came in contact with. She was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to so many. Those who knew Donna knew the bright light she shined on others and the lasting impact she’s had on those in her circle.
Donna Lee Forbes, was the daughter of Winfred and Dorothy Forbes of Lebanon, Maine. Donna was a Sanford High School graduate of 1956 and a nursing graduate of 1959. Donna was a caretaker at heart. Her early years as a nurse were spent working for Lela Davis, her aunt, who owned the Davis Nursing and Rest Home in Sanford. After a hiatus to be home with their two boys, Donna went back into healthcare where she worked as the Director of Nursing for the Greenwood Center in Sanford for 17 years. Aside from her profession, Donna loved to connect with others. She had a passion for spreading joy, hosting family gatherings, preparing wine and cheese luncheons with friends and making others laugh.
Donna had an unconditional love for the beach. She spent countless hours at Wells Beach searching the coast for sea glass, sipping mimosas on the annual cousin’s trip, watching the tide come in at Forbes, or eating a chocolate raised donut from Congdon’s. The beach was her happy place and may she enjoy all the ocean has to offer going forward.
Donna also enjoyed many summers at Mousam Lake, where Lela Davis had a camp. She enjoyed swimming, boating, waterskiing and entertaining friends and family.
Donna shared life with Philip Fields, her lifelong partner of 70 years, (65 years in marriage). Phil and Donna have enjoyed many moments together and are blessed for the time they’ve spent together. From camping across the U.S. into Alaska and back, to vacationing in Bermuda, to visiting many of the beautiful sites Maine has to offer and we can’t forget their days spent at the Acton Fair catching up with old friends. Their love for one another, their family, and friends is inspiring. Donna is survived by her love Phil, her younger brother, her two sons, her four grandchildren, her two great grandchildren, 6 nieces, and many cousins and friends.
May you raise your glass (of wine) for Donna, she will be missed. “Mom”, “Gram”, “GiGi”, “Aunt Donna”, “Donna” may you rest in peace and know we love you forever.

Our deepest condolences to you and your family. May you find comfort and peace during this difficult time.
We met your Mom in 1991. She so kindly let us rent the large cabin. Ever since then, we have enjoyed our times at beautiful Mousam Lake. We are so thankful to your family for making such an impact on our lives.
With sympathy, love and appreciation,
The Hail/Peterson Families
We are sure that her presence will be missed. May memories of happier times sustain you in the days ahead!
Dear Phil, We were saddened to learn of Donna’s passing. We recall her forever warm smile and delightful demeanor. It was clear to us that the two of you enjoyed each other’s company, a wonderful example of what a true relationship is all about. The many fond memories of Rotary functions and Acton Fair stay with us indefinitely. Our deepest condolences go out to you, Todd, Troy and the entire family.

My heartfelt condolences to all of you and your families. I will always be grateful for everything your family did to help my mom. She always talked about the many visits from Donna and how nice it was for her. I know Phil would take care of her driveway on big storms and help her out.
We were very lucky to have you for neighbors.
Dear Phil, Trent & Troy and families, on behalf of Donna’s cousin Dorothy Walker Peteros and myself, we extend our heartfelt sympathies for your loss having experience similar losses in the not so distant past (husband & father of nearly 60 yrs, George, in 9/2015, and my spouse of nearly 40 years in 11/2023)
It was always fun on our annual trips to ME to visit and listen to Dorothy and Donna talk family, including about Dorothy “babysitting” Donna. There was a palpable love and affection between them which was infectious. At almost 91, Dorothy’s long-term memory is still good and she still recounts fondly of time spent with her cousin Donna – before departing ME and our summer visits each year. Take care of yourselves and know that you are all lucky to be the people you are, in part, due to having had a long and loving relationship with Donna. 🥰
– Dorothy’s daughter, Karen Peteros
