Donald W. Morrison

June 26, 1951 ~ August 15, 2025

Born in: Elmira, New York
Resided in: Sanford, Maine

Donald W. Morrison, 74, of Sanford passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born on June 26, 1951, in Elmira, New York, to Dorthea and Donald Morrison Sr. When Donald was about four years old, the family moved to Sanford for his father’s work. He grew up locally and attended Sanford schools.

A proud veteran, Donald served the Army National Guard.

Over the years, Donald pursued many different paths of employment. He worked as a steeplejack, was employed at Pikes Industries, served as a nurse’s aide at Main Stay Nursing Home, and bartended at various establishments, including the Lafayette Club.

Donald had a great sense of humor and a lot of charismatic charm. He had a way of making the person in front of him feel heard and special. To those who knew him, Donald was many different things: a friend, a confidant, and a character. Of all his roles in life, one of the ones he was most proud of was being a grandfather to Gary.

He also had a deep love for animals, especially his late cats Frodo and Charlie, his dogs Kermie and Ming, and even two squirrels.

Donald was predeceased by his parents, Donald Morrison Sr. and Dorthea Parker, stepmother Ginny Morrison, step father Stillman Parker, his brothers, Denny and his wife Kathy, James “Monkey” Morrison, and Donnie Allen; and his sister, Donna Hupe.

He will be missed by his daughter, Kristie Love Monahan and her significant other Patrick Hamel, their son, Gary Demers all of Sanford; his son, Brian Belanger; his brother, David Morrison and his wife Christine of Shapleigh; his sister-in-law, Claire Morrison; Kristie’s mother, Gladys Demers of Sanford; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Pinnacle Health Care in Sanford and at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Their kindness and compassion will always be remembered.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 29 at 1:00 P.M. at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road in Springvale.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I had the pleasure of meeting Donald a few weeks ago at Pinnacle. He made friends quickly with some of the residents. His great sense of humor always had residents and staff laughing right along with him. One expression he would say alot was ya baby. He will be very much missed.

  2. I am not even sure where to begin. My heart aches everyday thinking I will not have another chance to hug him or tell him all my drama. Seeing his face light up in every room he walked into, would have to be my favorite memory of Don, aka, BABY. It was an absolute pleasure to care for Don and build as many memories that we did. He will be missed dearly, he will never be forgotten, and he will be watching over us now! Much love for that man.

  3. Sweetest, dearest, funniest, most humble, adorable and intelligent man I have ever gotten to know. Incredibly grateful for our time together at Pinnacle. It was beautiful to see how beloved he was there.
He tried to tell me what an “asshxle” he was but I never believed it. He truly had a heart of gold. An angel. I really love and miss him and wish him well on his journey.
