Donald J. Jacques, 87, a lifelong resident of Sanford, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday May 25, 2017 at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born in Sanford on December 18, 1929 a son of the late Zepherin and Lucinda (Boucher) Jacques. Donald was the youngest of 16 children. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1947. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.For many years he was the proprietor of the Ballenger Auto Company, Dodge Chrysler-Plymouth Dealership. Donald was a fair and honest business man with not only those who were employed by him, whom he treated as his own family, but those who patronized his establishment regularly over the years. He was highly recognized by the Maine Auto Dealers Association.A lifelong communicant of Holy Family Parish, he was also a founding member of the St. Thomas School Board. He was currently the oldest member and Past President of the Sanford/Springvale Rotary Club. Donald was a passionate and considerate individual. All who knew him, his family, friends, business associates and peers saw evidence of this in all aspects of his life. His infectious smile made you at ease and comfortable being in his presence. He was at any moment willing to stop what he was doing and extend a helping hand to anyone in need. His greatest achievement, was his wife and family.In his younger years, his interests included horse racing, car racing, and travelling.He is predeceased by his siblings and two sons, Jeffrey Jacques and Gary Jacques.He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeannine (Levasseur) Jacques of Sanford, daughters, Judy Morin and her fiance Steven Joyce of Saco, Doreen Boyce and her husband, Edward Boyce Jr., of Sanford and Donna Temm of Eliot, grandchildren, Jeff Morin of Springvale, Amy Sevigny and her husband, Sam of Springvale, Jill Boyce of Roseburg, Oregon, Dylan Temm of Eliot, four great grandchildren, one sister in law, Marie Jacques and several nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday June 3rd at 10AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.
