Donald J. Hardy

Donald J. Hardy, 71 years old, of Sanford, ME and Mariner Sands, Stuart Florida died Thursday afternoon, February 15, 2007 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Mr. Hardy was born in Rochester, New Hampshire on March 17, 1935, a son of Edward L. and Florence M. Arsenault Hardy. He attended Sanford High School and was a 1958 graduate of Bentley College in Boston.Mr. Hardy was a United States Naval Veteran, and proudly served his country during the Korean War.Mr. Hardy was the President and General Manager of Cives Steel Company of Augusta, Maine, where he retired from in 1990 after 29 years of service to the company. Mr. Hardy was also a Lobsterman, and enjoyed his time at sea.Mr. Hardy greatly enjoyed the outdoors. You could easily find him out hunting, or fishing, snapping photos, but above all he loved to be out on the course playing a nice round of golf.Over the years Mr. Hardy volunteered his time serving on the Augusta General Hospital Board of directors. He was a member of the Augusta Country Club, The Sanford Country Club, and the Mariner Sands Country Club of Stuart, Florida. He was also a member of the Sanford Elks Lodge No. 1470 BPOE, the Sanford/Springvale Fish & Game Protective Association Inc., and the Springvale Social Club.Predeceasing Mr. Hardy was his sister Lorraine Downes.Surviving are his good friend and companion Rita Normand Nadeau of Sanford, a brother and sister-in-law Edward J. and Betty Hardy of Springvale, a daughter Ann Marie Crockett of Waterford, Maine, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.At Mr. Hardy's request there will be no period of visitation. A private graveside service will be conducted in the spring of 2007 at the convenience of the family.Services for Mr. Hardy have been arranged through the Carll-Heald & Black funeral Home of Springvale, Maine.To leave a message of condolence please use the "condolences" tab to the left.
