Donald Caron, 90, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on his birthday. He was born in Sanford on October 17, 1927, one of three children born to Louis and Rose Caron. He was predeceased by a sister Claire Caron and is survived by his other sister, Lucille DellaVechia. A graduate of St. Ignatius High School in Sanford, he enlisted in the US Army and served as a sergeant during the Korean Conflict.Upon his return from overseas, he married the love of his life, Louise Brocato on November 27, 1952. They were married on Thanksgiving Day and over the following 65 years, had a lot to be thankful for.Don was "Dad" to six children: Donna Caron Gallant, Stephen Caron, Frances Caron Libbey, John Caron, Daniel Caron and Marion Caron Fromwiller. He was "Grandpa" to 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.Don loved sports. He played baseball, fast pitch softball, pool, horseshoes, golf and enjoyed fishing. He also coached several of his children and enjoyed watching sporting events on television. The house was very lively during football season, and because Louise was a die-hard Yankees fan, baseball games against Don's Red Sox were always an adventure. After retirement from the US Postal Service in Sanford, Don's game of choice was golf. He loved playing and had many friends at the Sanford Country Club. He also loved to compete with several of his children. He would go to the Sanford Elks on occasion for a game of pool and enjoyed setting up some trick shots. His kids and grandkids were impressed with his skills.Don loved a good glass of wine. At times he joked about his kids drinking all his wine but he loved it when they would visit no matter the time of day and could share a glass with them. He was a great joke and story teller. Anyone that knew him could expect a new joke whenever they saw him. Later in life, Don shared many stories of his life with his children, something they will cherish forever.Don had many titles: son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He wore each one with pride. His love of family showed in his faith, his dedication and the lessons he passed on to this children. His first thought every day was of his wife Louise...even in the hospital his concern was "is Mom OK?"He will be missed, but lives on in his family, a legacy anyone would be proud of.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 25 at 10:00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford.
