South Portland - Diane “Dee-Dee” Louise Gribbin, 77, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Maine Medical Center.
Dee-Dee was born on August 29, 1945 to Clarence and Alice (Burke) Howard in Portland, ME. She married the love of her life, James Gribbin, on September 25, 1965. They shared almost 58 years of marriage together this year. They bought their home in South Portland in 1970 and have spent the last 50 years there growing their beautiful family.
During her life, Dee-Dee loved tending to her garden, weeding, family game nights and leaf peeping with her husband and close friends. Her family will miss her iconic dishes such as her macaroni and cheese, whoopie pies, banana bread and chocolate cream pies.
She enjoyed a good prank, often courtesy of her oldest son. She shared a loving and unique bond with each of her children. She always had an ear to listen, advice to offer and hugs-a-plenty. Her grandchildren were her world and she had a special relationship with each of them, as well as their friends. She was affectionately known to all as Nana or Nan. She attended every sporting event and extracurricular activity that she could, always bringing her bag of candy to hand out. In addition to the love she had for her grandchildren, she also loved all of her grand-dogs, some believing she loved the dogs more than them.
She is predeceased by her brother, Robert Howard.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, James; children, Tim (Sharon) Gribbin, of Gorham, Shawn Gribbin, of South Portland, Kevin (Kelly) Gribbin, of Gorham, Jennifer (Denis) Gosselin, of Windam; grandchildren, Joseph, Meghan, Kaylin, Samantha, Skye, Kaleb, Airan; and sister, Patricia Inman.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday March 11, 2023 from 12-4pm at Profenno’s, 934 Main Street, Westbrook, Maine.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. To view Diane’s memorial page, or to share an online condolence, please visit www.ConroyTullyWalker.com

Dee and I worked together many years and always had a great time together. She always talked about her children and was so proud of them. She was a wonderful person. My thoughts and prayers to the family.
Love you always and forever. -Kelly 💜
She taught me that the way to catch a man’s eye was to wink at him while walking by, apparently it’s a conversation starter.
Love you always and forever – your chilly willy
Jenny G and family—I am heartbroken to hear Mama Gribbin has moved on. She was a second mom to me through high school and beyond, she was an amazing woman and she was loved beyond measure. My prayers and heart are with you all.
Her yelling at dad for wearing his yellow headphones because she couldn’t get his attention.
