dennis farrell, jr
Dennis Patrick Farrell, Jr. , of Diamond Cove, Great Diamond Island and Savannah, GA, passed away on Sunday May 22, 2011, at Maine Medical Center, much to the sadness of his family and friends. Dennis was born in Worcester, MA on December 11, 1969. He graduated from Cheverus High School in 1988 and went on to receive a degree in Classics from Saint Anselm College and was a successful scholarship athlete. Dennis became the Director of Admissions at Cheverus High School, coached the men's varsity baseball team, and taught Latin and English. Dennis loved coaching and at such a young age was a dynamic mentor and well respected by his players, parents, and fellow coaches. He especially loved running the Cheverus summer baseball camps with his longtime friend and fellow coach, Kevin Butterfield. Dennis met his wife Amy in 1994, fell deeply in love, and they married in 2000 on Nantucket Island. His best friend, confidant, step-mom to his daughter Meghan, and loving wife will truly miss his companionship and enduring love. In 1993 his pride and joy Meghan was born and continued to be another love in his life. He cherished all the time spent with her from piata birthday parties, weekends on the island, and trips to the sunny beach. Dennis was always proud of Meghan. When she graduates from Scarborough High School and furthers her studies at James Madison University this fall, a part of Dennis will always be with her. Dennis began his post Cheverus work as a sales representative for Tosco Corporation and retired recently from ConocoPhillips as Director, Atlantic Region; managing a sales force from Eastern Canada to Florida and also a facility in Savannah. Dennis was known in the industry as a strong relationship builder, who also was a tenacious negotiator. He was well respected and developed strong ties within the industry amongst both business partners and colleagues. Although Dennis was very successful he was the first to admit he was not a corporate guy. Dennis preferred wearing flip flops to loafers and loved entertaining people in the places that he cared for the most. This is where he built relationships with people that went way beyond the corporate walls. Dennis was most recently pursuing an opportunity to open a local business in Portland. He was looking forward to wearing flip flops full time, being part of the Portland community, and among all... .building relationships with people. Of all the places he lived, Dennis loved Diamond Cove, Maine the most. He cherished the peacefulness that the island offered and the many friends he made there. He and his wife own the General Store on the island and they had planned to make Diamond Cove their permanent home. Dennis was an avid reader who enjoyed recommending books that were meaningful to him to friends and associates. He was known for picking up "kharma bread" from Standard Baking Company and passing out fresh baguettes to friends and strangers on the ferry heading out to the islands, or just leaving on a neighbor's porch. Dennis found immense pleasure in taking his golden retriever, Samantha swimming on Diamond Cove. He enjoyed talking baseball, especially the Red Sox, with his father Dennis Sr. and friends who really understood the game. He had an impressive memory and would recall important personal facts or events that he could later recant in detail. It was important for Dennis to support local businesses and he was a generous contributor to many local charities. He had an infectious warm smile, was witty, selfless, an independent thinker, caring, and candid. He would never give advice, only suggestions if asked. Dennis leaves his wife of 11 years, Amy Farrell, of Great Diamond Island and Savannah, Georgia; his daughter Meghan Farrell of Scarborough, ME[Marker], his parents Dennis Sr. and Agnes Farrell of Gorham, ME, his sister Kelly Dunn and her husband William and their children Anthony and Julie from Fairfield, CT, a sister Mary Beth Carion and her husband Joseph and their children Jennifer and Timothy of Scarborough, ME, and a sister Jennifer Polisner and her husband David and their children Daniel and Joshua also from Scarborough, Maine.
