David R. Rowden

David R. Rowden, MD, 69, of Springvale, died unexpectedly at home on April 28th.He was born May 11, 1946, the son of Ralph C. and Marion (McNeilly) Rowden. He grew up in Groveton, NH, and graduated as class valedictorian in 1964 from Groveton High School.David graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of New Hampshire in 1968 and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to Boston University School of Medicine and graduated in 1972. He completed his internship and residency at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY, and earned his fellowship in gastroenterology.He married Terry Kenyon, the love of his life, in 1975 in Topsfield, MA. They then moved to Sanford, ME where he practiced at Cote, McCall, Nealis & Rowden Internal Medicine, specializing in gastroenterology. He practiced medicine for 37 years, retiring in 2013.His life focus, dedication and mission was to be of service to others. He was always available to his patients, even in his retirement. His passions in life were his family, reading, golfing, swimming, outdoor activities, ice cream, chocolate, March Madness and especially spending time with his children and grand-dogs. He was particularly excited to welcome his first granddaughter, who will be arriving in July.He was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Sanford.David is survived by his devoted wife, Terry K. Rowden, daughter Christie Rowden, twin daughters Kimberly R. DeMaio and husband Jim, Meredith R. French and husband Brandon, his twin brother Douglas Rowden and wife Doris, sister Martha Young and husband John, a cousin Annalee R. Novak and husband Chuck, and several nieces and nephews.The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A Celebration of Life will he held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Church, 66 North Avenue in Sanford. A reception will follow at Above and Beyond Catering at the Town Club, 4 Washington Street in Sanford.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Dr. Rowden to Groveton NH High School & the American Heart Association.
