David Lloyd Powell, 89, of Newfield, Maine, died suddenly in his home on Sunday, February 14, 2016. Born in Needham, Massachusetts to William and Eliza Powell, he lived in Medfield, Massachusetts, where he had a successful linoleum and tile business, before moving to Newfield, Maine in 1979. David retired at age 62 from the Maine State Department of Transportation, where he worked as a foreman. If you wanted to know how a road was built he was the man to ask. David loved the outdoors, and gardening, fishing, hunting and harness racing were some of his favorite activities. A devoted family man, he loved being with his family the most. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.He is pre-deceased by his loving daughter, Elizabeth, and his brothers, John, Tom, Gilbert and George, and sisters, Mary, Louise and Ruth. David is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Nancy, daughter Kathleen, (Tom) Tuttle of Albany, New York, sons David, (Claire) Powell of Appleton, Maine, Philip Powell of Portland, Maine, Glen (Carol) Nethery-Powell of New Hope, Minnesota, son-in-law Ron Monroe of West Newfield, Maine, and grandchildren Alex (Colin) Powell of Camden, Maine, Michaela (Derek) Cooper of Redondo Beach, California, Lydia Powell of Appleton, Maine, Rachel Powell of Portland, Maine, Grace Powell of Portland, Maine,Samuel (Molly) Monroe of West Newfield, Maine, Jake Monroe of West Newfield, Maine, and one great grandson, George David (Powell) Adams, Camden, Maine. He is also survived by his sisters, Evie Anderson of Millis, Massachusetts and Corine Grimaldi of New York.A private memorial service to celebrate David's life will be in May.To leave a message of condolence please click tab at left.
