David K. Hunter

June 8, 1961 ~ September 2, 2023

Resided in: South Portland, Maine

David grew up in Portland and supported himself from a young age. He was well known as the go to worker amongst the stores and shops that populated Congress Street. David also had a small landscaping business in the West End area.

David attended Portland schools and graduated from Andover College with a degree in Computer Science that led to a position at BIW. When his son Andrew entered the South Portland School System David began volunteering. He helped by providing classroom support in elementary education and worked as a lunch aide.

David’s interest in computers gave him early access to the ever-changing world of technology. He was an avid adopter of video games alongside collecting music, movies and popular memorabilia in the new digital age. David thoroughly enjoyed his time in the young lives of his new niece Amity and nephews Tyler & Palmer. He became acclimated with lake life and learned to love spending time relaxing in the outdoors.

David was so proud to become a hands-on parent. He took his role seriously as a father in his day-to-day life and enjoyed playing basketball with his son. David’s interest in politics grew in his later life and he always enjoyed a good friendly debate. One thing David never lost track of was his ability to always be able to laugh at himself. His sense of humor spilled over into his artwork which further fueled his interest in cartooning.

David was predeceased by his sister Kathleen Marie Hunter in 2017, his father David Hunter, mother Joan Hunter, and step dad Peter. David is survived by his son Andrew Hunter, former wife Mary Hunter, sister Cindy and her sons James & Jeffrey Audette.
