David S. Flanders

SCARBOROUGH - David S. Flanders, 49, of Phillip Street, died on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the Gosnell Hospice after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. His loving wife was by his side. David was born in Portland, Maine on August 23, 1964 the son of Donald R. and Esther L. Collins Flanders. He attended local schools including Deering High School. David married Michelle L. Gagne at Woodfords Congregational Church on September 18, 1999. David worked as a graphic designer for the National Distributors in South Portland for many years until his death. In his spare time, he enjoyed digging clams, gardening, snow skiing and was a regular fixture Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Saturday nights during racing season. He was an avid New England Sports Team fan for the Patriots, Bruins and Red Sox and also an avid fan of Nascar. His greatest love, however, was the time he spent surrounded by his wife and children, whether it was on a family camping trip, the girls' soccer game or a dance recital you would always find David there supporting his girls. David was predeceased by both of his parents. He is survived by his wife of 14 years Michelle of Scarborough; two daughters Elizabeth L. and Sarah C. Flanders both of Scarborough; two sisters Sandra Rothman of Yarmouth and Susan Howes of Biddeford; five brothers Lawrence and his wife Mary Flanders of Somersworth, NH, Donald and his wife Linda Flanders of Yarmouth, William Flanders of Berwick, Richard Flanders of Westbrook, John Flanders of Standish; in-laws Roland Alice Gagne of South Portland; many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, ME. Prayers will be recited at 11:15am on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the chapel followed by 12:00 noon Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Rd, Scarborough, ME. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Route 88, Yarmouth, ME.
