Burden, his paternal grandparents, Guy and Alta Burden and maternal grandparents David and Madeline Corey Joseph.David was born in Waterville on December 17, 1975. In high school he was a dedicated volunteer worker with Special Education students and was encouraged to pursue a degree in the field because of his natural ability and easy manner. At the same time, he was involved in team sports and received recognition for achieving varsity status in four sports: soccer, baseball, hockey, and lacrosse. His love of sports continued long after high school with soccer, hockey, softball, and disc golf.He graduated from Cony High School in 1994 and was very close to completing an undergraduate degree program in Mental Health and Human Services at UMA. He worked in a variety of jobs and positions in his young life, a few of which include employment at JS McCarthy Print Shop, Farley Landscaping, and Riverview Psychiatric hospital where he was employed as a peer counselor. His sense of humor was unparalleled. He had a gift for dramatic and entertaining story telling. To friends and family, he was known by numerous names such as: Burd, Burdie, Burd Boy, Burd Turd, Burd Dog and of course Burden, just to name a few. Anyone who knew David, knew he was not a bad person, but rather a person with a terrible problem. He struggled with long term addiction and failed attempts at recovery. He had great potential that he was not able to actualize because of his disease. He will be deeply missed. Due to Covid-19 concerns, there will be a private service at a later date. For those who wish to, please consider donations to: Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine, PO Box 1807 Auburn 04211; or Kennebec Valley Humane Society 10 Pet Haven Lane Augusta 04330.
