SCARBOROUGH Daniel G. LaRochelle, Jr., 86, died peacefully on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with his family by his side. Born in South Portland, Daniel was the son of the late Daniel and Eva (Chaput) LaRochelle. He married Hazel Plummer on September 16, 1949 in the former St. John the Evangelist Church of South Portland. Together, they shared 66 years of marriage. Daniel was employed with H.P. Hood for 34 years, retiring in 1991. Following retirement, Daniel enjoyed playing golf, traveling with his wife, birds, gardening and woodworking. Having a strong work ethic, he always maintained his yard and equipment, making sure everything was in pristine condition. An example of this is his snow blower which he maintained and used for over 55 years. He was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish where he remained strong in his faith throughout his life. Above all else, Daniel put his family first. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who taught his children and grandchildren so much over their lives; something that will be passed on for generations. He is predeceased by his parents and several siblings. He is survived by the love of his life, Hazel; daughter, Edith Hancock of Gorham; son, Daniel G. LaRochelle, III and his wife Laura of Portland; brother, Keith LaRochelle and wife Diane of Buxton; sisters, Edith Hegarty and husband Earl of Buxton and Elsie Heiser and husband Richard of OH. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sarah Gies and husband Greg and Danielle Cartwright and husband Claude, Sherri; great-grandchildren, Kyra-Mei, Christopher, Danny, Natalie, and Kaitlyn. Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-6PM at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home on Thursday at 9:15AM followed by a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough. Burial to follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.
