Daniel J. Feeney

October 18, 1954 ~ May 10, 2016
Portland Daniel J. Feeney, 61, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Portland on October 18, 1954, son of Martin J. and Margaret E. (Majors) Feeney Sr.. He grew up in Portland, attended Jack Junior High, and graduated from Portland High School in 1972. After high school, Daniel focused on supporting his young family through various work as a carpenter, Radio Shack manager in California and Machias, IT extraordinaire (Dunlap Agency), eventually obtaining a position working with the State of Maine for 22 years as a document imaging specialist. Daniels sense of humor was infectious and he could always find light in any situation. He made others smile and laugh because he was in essence, smiles and laughter. He found his vocation in caring for others, whether bringing his mother coffee every Sunday morning, walking his children through computer troubles with his virtuoso computer skills, or picking his wife a beautiful flower. Being a caregiver was the attribute he prized most. Daniel loved science fiction novels, music, dancing, cooking and gardening with his wife, and his memories of his childrens childhood (camping at Sebago Lake, Frisbee and hot dogs at Two Lights, exploring the tide pools at Jimmys Beach, Peaks Island picnics, skipping rocks, etc.) He loved absurd comedic movies, Warner Brothers cartoons (especially Marvin the Martian) Key and Peele skits, and found joy in scouring YouTube for the funniest videos. Daniel was also an avid New England Patriots fan and loved seeing them win the Super Bowl 4 times. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Mary-Frances Adamson; son, Eric Feeney, his wife Holly and their daughter Sadie of Portland; daughters, Lindsey (Feeney) Hall, her husband Nathan and their daughter Nila of Cape Elizabeth, Chelsea (Feeney) Foley and her husband Peter III of Portland; sister, Margaret Mary LaCombe and her husband Michael of Peaks Island; brothers, Martin Feeney and his wife Roberta Lockard of Scarborough, John Feeney and his wife Joan McSweeney of MA, and James Feeney and his wife Ilona of Gorham; the mother of his children, LauraLee Feeney of Yarmouth, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A reception celebrating Daniels life will be held at DiMillos on the Water, 25 Long Wharf, Portland, on Sunday, June 12 from 11am-3pm. Feel welcome to bring a Mel Brooks quote or favorite one-liner from a movie to share in memories and conversation. Lets keep laughing as Daniel made us laugh. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Eric, Lindsey & Chelsea, My thoughts and prayers are with you my beautiful family! Your Dad was the only “morning person” I ever knew! He was always smiling or tap dancing and cracking jokes to make others smile with him! I can still hear him playing the harmonica and see him dancing around! His world revolved around you, his children, and now his grandchildren! He loved you all so much! Sunday mornings he would go out for his coffee and newspaper and make sure he picked up a loaf of Vito’s Italian bread for Sunday Sauce at Grammy & Papas. It is surreal to me that he is not here, gone but never forgotten. I hope you can find comfort in knowing someday we will all be together again on the other side where there will be no more pain or suffering. RIP my brother-in-law, you will be missed. <3
