Clifford E. Marrier, Jr., 68, of Alfred, died on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born on October 4, 1949 to the late Clifford and Alma (Maynard) Marrier in Burlington, VT, where he grew up and attended the Christ the King School and Rice Memorial High School. He attended classes at the University of Vermont as well.In 1969 Clifford enlisted in the U.S. Airforce and was stationed several places around the world such as Japan and Alaska, and retired from there in 1991.After his military career he was employed at the former Whiting Company in Burlington, and then he and his wife moved to Florida and lived in Maine during the summers at their camp at Shaker Pond in Alfred. During his winters in Florida, he worked at the Kennedy Space Center in the snack bar at the Launch Control Center, which he thoroughly enjoyed.With the help of their friend, whom they would like to give special thanks, David Lessard, the couple remodeled their beloved camp into a year round home and that is where he spent the remainder of his life.Clifford was a devout Catholic and always put God first.He was very proud of his military service, was an avid outdoorsman, and his pride and joy were his granddaughters. He was known as a kind, gentle soul. He was always willing to help and was said to be one the nicest men you would ever meet. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Rita Marrier, a daughter, Sarah Fong and her husband Alex, of Essex, VT, a son Clifford Marrier, III, and his wife Samantha of New Smyrna Beach, FL, four granddaughters, Ena Fong, Alyssa Gomon, Harper Marrier, and Mackenzie Marrier, a sister, Diana St. Louis and her husband Jack, of Burlington, VT, a brother Robert Marrier and his wife Louise, of Brandon, VT, several nieces and nephews, and very special brother in law and dear friend, David Lessard. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. at Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. at the Notre Dame Chapel at 125 Shaker Hill Rd., in Alfred. Burial will be held at Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.At the family's request, no flowers please.
