Clarence R. Pennell, 87 years old, of Sanford, ME died Monday December 5, 2005 at St. Andre's Home in Biddeford.Clarence was born on April 23, 1918 in Portland, ME. He was the son of Clarence and Irene (Cook) Pennell. Clarence was a naval veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. For over 27 years he worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a shipfitter in shop 11. He was a Past Commander of the Sanford V.F.W Post 9935, a member of the Sanford American Legion, and the Sanford Knights of Columbus.Clarence was communicant of St. Ignatius Church in Sanford, and loved to hunt, fish and play cribbage with family and friends. Clarence also enjoyed working in his garden, and along with his wife Dorothy he traveled the United States and Canada.Predeceasing Clarence are three children, Peter, Bonnie Sue, and Kenneth Pennell.Surviving is his wife of over 66 years Dorothy (Woolley) Pennell; four daughters, Patricia McDaniel of Sanford, Cynthia Babcock of Ohio, Donna Ewing of Michigan, Cheryl Warring of Pennsylvania; two sons, Richard Pennell of Michigan, William Pennell of Washington, 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five sisters, Alberta Webb, Charlotte Lamont, D. Mary Wallace, D. Hope McFarland, and Geraldine Dile.A period of visitation for Clarence will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2005 from 6 to 8 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St. Springvale, ME. An 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday the 9th at St. Ignatius Church in Sanford.The family suggests that memorials for Clarence be made in his name to the Iris Network, 189 Park Ave. Portland, ME 04102.
