Christine Alison (Rice) Soule, 43, of Sanford passed away peacefully at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on July 22nd, 2012 surrounded by her family. Christine was born in Rockingham, Vermont on October 12, 1968, the daughter of Howard and Donna (Nims) Rice. She graduated from Bellows Falls Union High School and received a Bachelor of Music degree from Keene State College. Music brought her joy and she spread that love of music throughout her life. She moved to Maine in 1992, and began teaching piano lessons both privately and through Sanford Community Adult Education. She also served as Sanford High School Marching Band Assistant and Color Guard Instructor for 6 years. Her true passion was working with children, and she was proud of her 10 years as a teacher at St. Thomas School and her 4 years at Wells Elementary School. Christine was a compassionate person and spent time working with others through both Home Instead Senior Care and Waban, Inc. She spent many summers working for the Sanford Recreation Department and for the past 9 years had volunteered tireless hours as a coach, board member, registrar, and VP through the Sanford Soccer Association. Her most important and beloved job was raising her two girls. Nothing made her prouder. Those who knew Christine appreciated her sense of humor, her dedication to family and friends, her ability to inspire others through her love of music, and her commitment to the community and all its members. She was a courageous woman and her determination, grace and strength in the face of cancer was incredible. She was a role model to us all and she will be greatly missed by the many who were lucky enough to be touched by her life. Christine is survived by her two daughters, Kelsey and Jensen Doiron, of Sanford; her father, Howard Rice of Westminster, VT; a brother, Howard Rice, Jr. of Falmouth; two sisters, Rebecca Thompson of Richmond, VT and Amy Sciacca of Westminster, VT; along with several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 24th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 25th at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford, ME. Interment with a graveside celebration will be held on Thursday, July 26th at 11:00 AM at the New Westminster Cemetery in Westminster, VT.
